My thoughts on Resistance 3
It's been quite a while since I edited here, so... hello again. I got Resistance 3 alongside Modern Warfare 3 for Christmas, and I decided I'd post my thoughts on it here.
I'll be frank... I was disappointed by it. In my opinion, Resistance 3 was just a step-down from Resistance 2 in a lot of ways.
First and foremost: why is the health meter back? Regenerative health was a lot better in R2, and saved a lot of frustration for me during the harder levels (like trying to defeat the bitch that is the Swarm in Bryce Canyon). Then, all of a sudden, whoa! You're back to running around desperately searching for health packs while a full squad of hybrids uses you for target practice. And you just know that when you're on your last sliver of health, that's when a Ravager and/or Steelhead will decide to join the party. Big let-down right there.
Second gripe: why is Capelli seemingly mute during gameplay? He'll talk during cutscenes just fine, but when you start gameplay, he never says a word. Why is this? Is he saving his voice for the next cutscene or something? It's ridiculous that Insomniac would decide to implement this, especially after all the talking Hale did during gameplay in R2.
Third gripe: the story is way too short (again, this is compared to R2's). When I broke out of Graterford, and the next cutscene showed that I was in New York, I was stunned. I'd only been playing for about five or six hours, and I was already near the end? What happened to R2's campaign length, which was sufficient to keep me going for about two weeks?
The weapon wheel was a pretty cool addition, and weapon upgrades are great. But, that's about it.
I'll be going into town next week and trading in R3. After the incredible masterpiece that was R2, it was a letdown of epic proportions.
