When I first read the book, I'm very mixed on how it was told. The capturing of human beings at the mining pit seems redundant given that spires are being used to infect. The love story thing between Hale and Aklin seems b-rated. And importantly the characterization of some of the characters, specifically Hale and Blake, which detached from what we known in the games.

Also given the fact that the author had previously written a book adaption of Halo in "The Flood", I understands why some fans are not amuse with the writer after reading RtGS.
