In Resistance 3, the alien race known as the Chimera have already conquered Earth in an alternate 1957. A small percentage of humanity struggled to survive in the aftermath while being threaten to extinction as the Chimera entered a genocidal campaign in completely wiping out these remnants.

The game's science-fiction theme have stretches back to related fiction such as H.G. Wells' The War of the Worlds and to recent media as the TV series Falling Skies. All of which illustrates humanity's struggle of survival in dealing with an otherworldly threat.
