SRPA Station Igloo is the first campaign level of Resistance 2.

Synopsis[]

Following the events of the Chimera's defeat in London, Nathan Hale is taken into custody at gunpoint by operatives of the Special Research Projects Administration. Upon boarding the SRPA's VTOL, Hale is restrained and is administered a sedative. Hale soon passes out before regaining conscious and is introduced to Major Richard Blake, the Director of Advanced Tactical Operations for SRPA Base Three. Blake acknowledges Hale as a survivor of Project Abraham, a confidential project undertaken by the SRPA to create superhuman soldiers infused with the Chimeran virus. Hale was monitored during the American intervention of the Chimeran-controlled British Isles, and when his immunity was discovered, they made plans to extract him.

The SRPA transport Hale to SRPA Station Igloo, a American black site in Iceland, to undergo mandatory testing before returning to America. Hours later, upon reaching Iceland, the group discovers Station Igloo is under attack by the Chimera. Their VTOL is shot down by a Goliath killing all but Hale and Blake. The two fight their way to the facility and attempting to take down the Goliath by destroying its exhaust ports with a L210 LAARK, as the facility's remaining personnel are focused on guarding "Daedalus", a test subject being observed by Dr. Fyodor Malikov. Blake is determined to stop the Chimera from reaching Daedalus, who is located in the facility's Detention Wing.

However, Chimeran forces breached the facility at the East Wing and wiping out Lima Team in the process. Blake and Hale quickly secured the east entrance before heading for the Detention Wing, where Blake intends on eliminating Daedalus. He requested the kill code from Malikov via radio, but is then informed by Malikov that inputting the code required deactivating the perimeter shield imprisoning Daedalus. Against Malikov's warning, Blake reluctantly orders Malikov to shut down the shield. Unfortunately, the prisoner breaks free before the kill code could be activated, and Daedalus reveals to be an Angel-like being infused with a human face. Daedalus confronts Hale and grabs him with his tentacles, telling him: "They're calling to us, Can you hear them? It's beautiful." Daedalus drops Hale and makes his escape.

Blake desperately orders SRPA forces to stop and kill Daedalus, but it is too late. Hale and Blake made their escape to an airfield before the former finally destroys the Goliath with a LAARK.

Trivia[]

  • The first chapter of this level is India Eight-Two Crash Site. India Eight-Two is a Easter Egg reference to the game title. In military terms India stands for "I" and Eight(8) Two(2); this is a reference to "I-8", the codename for Resistance: Fall of Man. Thus Resistance 2 is known as "I-8-2".
  • The level serves a lengthy walkthrough tutorial for the player, including using the primary and secondary fire for weapons, such as the HE .44 Magnum.
Dan Johnson

An Advanced Hybrid is standing in front of a sign that says: "Dan Aric Johnson AFB".

  • SRPA Station Igloo is disguised as the 'Dan Aric Johnson Air Force Base'. This is an Easter Egg reference to Dan Johnson, a former member of Insomniac Games who has been referenced in many Ratchet & Clank games.
  • If the player shoots at the guard towers they will eventually fall apart.
  • In this level Intel 2 comes before Intel 1.
    • Noticeably, Intel 1 was not created until December 15, 1951, as it is recovered by the player on July 15, 1951, making the document's existence at that time a paradox.
  • In the cutscene where Hale attempts to resist the Black Ops soldiers after being injected with a sedative, you can notice a burn or blood on Hale's shoulder.
  • The player can notice Holar tower from the VTOL and at the airfield at a far distance, as they are at the same island, Iceland.
    • During the VTOL scene where the team was being overun by the goliaths, Blake and the Black Ops soldiers mentioning what was happening at Holar Tower.
  • If the player looks carefully, the black ops soldiers in the VTOL look different then the ones outside (in the cuscene). This was because Insomniac used parts of the ending scene from Resistance: Fall of Man
  • Note that this level has some areas with open places or no walls. Should the player venture through those areas, they will be targeted by enemies and will be killed instantly, regardless of health.
    • If the player goes to right of the building while following Blake, Stalkers will engage you can kill you instantly.
    • If the player goes left or right of the building after escaping it, the same outcome happens as the previous.
    • If the player heads and takes cover with the Black Ops soldiers on the left instead with Blake, the player will instantly get killed, regardless of health.
    • If the player heads anywhere else when escaping the Goliath for the second time, he/she will be targeted by Stalkers in the open area.
    • If the player heads to the front of the plane, Hybrids will come from the far hanger and fire with great accuracy and kill the player instantly.
