The Special Research Projects Administration (SRPA) was an American military research organization that was tasked with studying and eliminating the Chimera. Their works includes the development of advanced weapons, the Sentinels, and attempts to find a cure against the Chimeran virus.
History[]
Establishment[]
The United States government first learned of the Chimera's existence after miners at Big Scrape copper mine in Nevada discovered an unknown alien metallic structure on May 27, 1934.[1] Per the government's increasingly authoritarian policies, an immediate cover-up was established by federal agents and elements of the U.S. Department of War, who quickly responded by establishing the Special Research Projects Administration, with approval from President Franklin D. Roosevelt. Upon its inception, the SRPA had no mission statement or declared goals.[2][3]
The SRPA soon began focusing on uncovering and investigating the presence of Chimeran artifacts throughout the United States, which led to the discovery of a Chimeran tower in Bryce Canyon, Utah. The agency also invested heavily in research and development of experimental weapons supplied to the United States Armed Forces.
In 1941, SRPA operatives were dispatched to Russia to forcibly extract the Russian scientist Dr. Fyodor Malikov and recruited him to continue his research on the Chimera.[4] In 1948, the SRPA began its research to create super-soldiers based on Dr. Malikov's research on the Cloven under Project Abraham.[5]
Chimeran War[]
When the Chimera invaded Europe in late December 1949, SRPA covertly deployed recon forces in limited numbers into the continent, with the intent of gathering as much intelligence as possible to prepare the United States for a potential invasion.[6] After Europe fell to the Chimera in 1950, the SRPA launched Project Abraham. The project's results led to the creation of a Chimeran entity known as Daedalus, who was detained in several containment facilities before relocating him to SRPA Station Igloo, and Nathan Hale, whose natural antibody production was essential in the development of the Sentinels.
In July 1951, the U.S. government struck a deal with the British resistance to provide military support to the British in return for a captured Angel. SRPA covertly deployed Black Ops units into the country during the events of Operation Deliverance. Despite the utter defeat suffered by the Americans in Operation Deliverance, the Black Ops such as X-Ray units continued to collect information. SRPA soon discovered that one of Project Abraham's surviving candidates, Sergeant Nathan Hale, survived Chimeran infection, and tasked the Black Ops to recover Hale, who was labeled by the agency as "Grayskin".[7] The SRPA operatives, however, were unable to recover Hale, often having been killed by Chimeran forces prior to Hale's arrival at their locations.
The SRPA was soon tasked in locating and reclaiming all surviving test subjects of Project Abraham to ensure the threat of further transformation similar to Daedalus is contained.[8] SRPA listed Nathan Hale as their highest priority due to receiving similar injections as Daedalus', and Black Ops units were ordered to recover Hale by force.[8] However, the Black Ops were unable to secure Hale due to a lack of manpower, all remaining units were quietly re-tasked with surveillance and recon.[7] It was not until after the Battle of London that SRPA units under Major Richard Blake successfully recovered Hale and transported him to SRPA Station Igloo.[9][10] But at the same time of Hale's arrival, Station Igloo came under attack by a massive Chimeran assault at the behest of Daedalus, who then escaped his captivity. SRPA abandoned Station Igloo and soon inducted Hale into the Sentinel Program.[10]
Defending America[]
The United States inevitably came under attack by the Chimera on August 14, 1951. The SRPA was granted further spending by the Grace Administration in constructing the Liberty Defense Perimeter.[11]
Following the fall of most of the northeastern states, SRPA forces were able to repel further Chimeran advances in the north, at the cost of losing most of their coastal states in the south. In 1952, the SRPA discovered the existence of advanced, non-Chimeran artifacts dubbed "Gray Tech" and created Project Prometheus to research and recover these components.[12][13]
In December 1952, the SRPA aided Britain in containing Chimeran incursions in Bracknell and Axbridge. In return for SRPA's aid, the British under Colonel Rachel Parker provided SRPA data on nuclear technology that was relayed to SRPA NT to develop an advanced fission bomb.[14]
By the end of 1952, the SRPA had made progress at eliminating Chimeran threats outside of America's borders, but could not sustain much longer.[15] The agency had learned that the Chimera under the leadership of Daedalus had been amassing a vast fleet of airships that would be capable of overrunning the United States.[15]
America's Downfall[]
SRPA's fears of Daedalus' attack became reality on May 15, 1953. A massive Chimeran assault was launched on both the American East and West Coast in which it resulted in wiping out 60% of the U.S. Armed Forces within the first 72 hours.[16][2]
SRPA, spearheaded by Sentinel Echo Team, managed to prevent the Chimera from breaching the Liberty Defense Perimeter at Twin Falls, Idaho.[17] However, Daedalus' flagship was able to bypass the defense towers and arrived at Station Genesis to reactivate the dormant Chimeran tower.[4] After the Bryce Canyon tower was activated, SRPA attempted to stop the Chimera from restarting the tower network by launching an assault on Chimera-occupied Chicago, where the Chicago tower controls the network. SRPA forces and Echo Team fought a lengthy battle in which the Chimera were reinforced by a Leviathan. Eventually Echo Team slayed the Leviathan and allowing Dr. Malikov to disable the tower. However, the tower was remotely reactivated by Daedalus from his command center in Iceland.[18]
In desperation, SRPA launched an extremely high-risk offensive into Chimeran-occupied Iceland to shut down the Holar Tower and kill Daedalus on May 17. Unfortunately, SRPA forces were beaten back with heavy casualties. Echo Team suffered the loss of Sentinels Aaron Hawthorne and Benjamin Warner, and Hale sustained a near-fatal chest wound by Daedalus himself before he was taken to safety by Sentinel Joseph Capelli.[19] More than a week after the disaster in Iceland, the Chimera breached the LDP and killed millions of people, including President McCullen and his cabinet. SRPA helped evacuate over two million survivors to Baton Rouge protection camp.[20]
As SRPA continued the evacuation, the agency also observed the Chimera's activation of the tower network. Although SRPA do not know of the tower network's purpose and the Chimera's intention focused in Chicxulub crater, the agency was determined to stop the Chimera from executing their final plan.[21] Meanwhile, the nuclear research team at SPRA NT were successful in detonating a four kiloton fission bomb. Having created another such weapon designated "Nellie", SRPA under Major Blake prepared to use it for a last ditch offensive to eliminate Daedalus and stopping his unknown plans for the tower network in Operation Black Eden.
On June 26, SRPA proceeded in their operation in which a small task force which includes Major Blake, Sentinels Nathan Hale and Joseph Capelli infiltrated Daedalus' flagship with the warhead. However, Daedalus became aware of their presence and Blake and his team were killed. Hale managed to stop Daedalus from disposing the warhead and killing him in the process. After priming the warhead, Hale and Capelli escaped the flagship moments before the warhead annihilated the Chimeran fleet.[22]
Despite SRPA having succeeded in killing Daedalus and destroying the fleet, they failed to stop Daedalus from fulfilling his plan. The nuclear detonation had created a power surge that channeled across the tower network toward New York City, where it opened a wormhole to the Pure Chimera's home world. Furthermore, the New York tower that was keeping the wormhole open was gradually freezing the planet and thereby rendering it uninhabitable for humanity.
Hale himself succumbed to the Chimeran virus and was euthanized by Capelli. Hale's body was recovered and analyzed by Dr. Malikov, who discovered a unique protein in Hale's blood actively fighting against the Chimeran virus. With his knowledge, Malikov successfully developed a cure for the Chimeran virus from Hale's genetic material, known informally as the Hale Vaccine, that was mass produced and distributed to the surviving human population.[23]
SRPA's last known action was their attempt to destroy the New York tower in which it only resulted with over one thousand men killed.[24]

Facilities[]
With the revelation of the Chimera, SRPA realized that their technological superiority far outweighed theirs. As such, each SPRA base was designed in different ways to counter the Chimeran threat, other factors including its location was also considered in the development of bases. For example, SRPA 3, an underwater coastal base near San Francisco was developed. Each base was unique in their development, however most, if not all bases were equipped with vast underground garages/hangar bays for their vehicles and aircraft. Additionally, each base was equipped with a sizeable security garrison, largely consisting of Black Ops and Sentinels and these bases were used as staging grounds for military operations in the region. Hence, in order to direct all military action, Tac-Com control rooms serve as the nerve centers for the bases, directing Black Ops and Sentinel military operations. Aside from military operations, some bases often serve exclusively as research bases, with most subsurface levels established to hold the administrative, medical, and food services block. Additionally, as secret military installations, personal are forbidden from leaving the premises unless having been given authorization to travel, hence living quarters were established. Learning from the encounters of British bases, many of the bases living quarters and located deeper underground, and are often protected by a maze of pathways, in which pre-positioned explosives offer a substantial defense against underground attacks, including from Chimeran Burrowers.

- SRPA was originally to be called the "Special Research Projects Agency" as seen in various files in Project Abraham and the America First - America Only newspapers.
- Interestingly, throughout the series, SRPA logos can be seen on nearly every piece of human technology, suggesting that it also served as humanity's arms provider. This is especially notable as British and Maquis forces have been seen utilizing supplies with SRPA logos, also reinforcing its independent nature from the American government, as President Grace had established an arms embargo.
- Through Mick Cutler, it can be inferred that members of SPRA's Black Ops wing have tattoos of a skull with a sword.
- Pre-alpha concept arts show that the SRPA was going to have a fortified compound in England and employ human-piloted reverse-engineered walking tanks.
