Leaper Pod

The Leaper Pod is a protective membranous sac from which the Chimeran Crawler species evolve into a Leaper strain.

Its believed that these pods are deposited by the other Chimera strains with some intelligence suggesting that the Widowmakers fulfill this role on the battlefield. The pods remain dormant until they sense local vibrations which make the Leaper pod a form of living landmine.

Caution is advised to anyone within Chimera territory as these pods often burst revealing their voracious cargo. Early detection of Leaper pods has been known to save lives. The use of explosives such as grenades or rockets is the recommended avenue of dealing with the pods before they spawn their Leapers. Air-fuel Grenades are ideal for this job for killing the Leapers within.

Note that Auger shots do not kill the Leapers within although they will pass through. Senseless amounts of bullets also has absolutely no effect on the egg sacs.
