Gray Territory, or Gray Zone. is a United States Army term for land and territory that fell under the control of the Chimera.[1]

All of Europe with the exception of the United Kingdom became gray by 1951. In August 1951, most parts of New England were the first American territory to fall under under the label of Gray Zone after a massed spire attack on New York, Boston and Philadelphia; followed by the city of Chicago on October 15th. U.S. propaganda organizations such as Perception Protection and Guidance attempted to reassure the American public that Gray Zones were still part of the United States and deemed the quarantine areas a "temporary solution".[2]

Following the fall of New England and the extention of Gray Zones along much of the Eastern Seaboard during 1951 and 1952, the Chimera also intensified their attacks on the pacific and southern States. Florida and Georgia joined the growing list after another massed spire attack on July 26th 1952 and both Washington and Oregon joined the list by December.

By the time the United States was attacked by the main Chimeran fleet on May 15th 1953, most coastal areas of the country had already been abandoned, with the exception of the Alabama-Louisiana portion of the Gulf of Mexico and California.
