Maury Welkers

Maury Welkers was a gun-owner from Poughkeepsie, New York who was a "tenacious organizer" of the Alliance for American Autonomy. On November 1950, Welkers took to the streets of Poughkeepsie, where he protested against the government's plans to catalog all gun-owners in America, in which he cries out his defiance, "If they want my rifle, they can shoot it out from my hands!"[1] He was later imprisoned by the authorities.
