The XR-005 Hailstorm is an energy weapon which is believed to be of American origin, though it is not found on any known order of battle. The Hailstorm exclusively appears in Resistance: Fall of Man and, specifically, can be found on a dead Black Ops in Somerset - "Search and Rescue".

The weapon fires subsonic bolts that are designed to ricochet off hard surfaces. The bolts will continue to travel until they find a soft target or are exhausted. Kills outside the line of sight are possible with banked shots. The alternate fire will discharge the entire magazine (or the remaining ammunition) and fire the bolts like a turret, which works well on large enemies. The recoil from the bolts will even allow the magazine to hang in mid-air.

Strategy

• The Hailstorm holds the title of being the fastest firing weapon in the game, even beating the Bullseye. Considering its usefulness it actually has a very good range and an added bonus is that the bolts bounce off objects, so they can be ricocheted around corners.
• If the player happen to run around a corner into a large group of enemies, pop up an Auto Turret and run back around the corner to safety while the Turret rips them all to shreds.
• The auto turret is very useful against the first group of Advanced Hybrids, especially on the first run through the game when the player does not yet have access to Backlash Grenades.
• A very effective weapon against Widowmakers, Titans, Angels and large enemies. Use the Auger's barrier to block their attacks and fire the turret into the sky. This maximises the weapon's angle so it fires at 360 degrees.
