Iceland is a country in the Northern-Atlantic Ocean, its capital is Reykjavík.
History[]
Formerly a territory of Denmark, it is unclear as to when, how, or even if it was independent before the events of the Chimeran War. It seems likely that, following the invasion of Europe by the Chimera in 1949, and the subsequent occupation of Denmark, the territory became self-governing. As the new country possessed no military of its own, the United States negotiated for the use of Icelandic territory for conducting military operations into occupied Europe, constructing military outposts such as SRPA Station Igloo for its forces during the early years of the Chimeran War. SRPA utilised these facilities during Operation Morning Star and Operation Deliverance, most notably in the recovery of Nathan Hale following the Battle of London.
The Chimera were clearly aware of these activities and on July 15, 1951, just as Hale arrived, Iceland was invaded. All defensive efforts by SRPA and the U.S. military failed to hold the island, as the Chimera sought to free Daedalus, who had been imprisoned at Station Igloo. SRPA attempted to terminate Daedalus, but they failed to do so. After Daedalus broke free, surviving SRPA personnel, including Major Richard Blake, Dr. Fyodor Malikov, and Hale evacuated Iceland to North America.[1] Sometime during the island's subsequent occupation, a previously undetected Chimeran tower was unearthed in Holar, which became known to SRPA as the Holar Tower.
Two years later on May 17, 1953, SRPA launched an attack on the Holar Tower in an attempt to assassinate Daedalus and shut down the tower network. However, the attack backfired, resulting in the loss of two Sentinels, Aaron Hawthorne and Benjamin Warner, and a large portion of SRPA's Black Ops force.[2]
Operation Wrath of God[]

On June 14, 1953 SRPA intelligence confirmed reconnaissance reports from Holar, that Daedalus was constructing a doomsday device known as the "Prometheus Weapon" at the Holar Tower. SRPA immediately launched Operation Wrath of God and dispatched Specter Team to seize the Gray Tech components before the Chimera could finish the weapon.[3]
By June 17, the Chimera had reinforced the area with advanced command units. It was clear from the recovered gray tech that the Prometheus Weapon was a target of absolute strategic importance. Recovery of all possible gray tech components from Holar was made a top priority, to give researchers at SRPA 11 as much information as possible to solve the mystery of the Prometheus Weapon.[4] On June 21, Specter Team had inflicted heavy losses on the Chimera, and stolen significant amounts of the weapon's components, forcing Daedalus to abandon its development.[5]
