Feral Chimera are Chimera that are independent from the Chimeran hive mind and hostile against militarized strains. These feral Chimera appeared following the aftermath of the Chimeran War, and their existence that came to being seem to be either the Chimera have abandoned or lost control of several Chimeran strains.

Feral Chimera differ themselves from their military counterparts by being somehow able to reproduce in the wild and proved to be a threat to military Chimera, weaker strains such as Grims and Leapers being able to overwhelm stronger strains such as Steelheads in numbers.^[1] There are even reports of Feral Chimera killing Military Chimera. Such as Widowmakers eating Ravagers. Noticeably, feral Chimera are seen to be composed on the more bestial strains (i.e. Chimera that are not sophisticated to wield weapons). Feral Chimera have been observed to have their own hierarchy, although less formal than that of military Chimera. Widowmakers have been observed as able to summon groups of Leapers and oddly Grims as well.

• Prior to feral Chimera coming to existence in Resistance 3, in the novel Resistance: The Gathering Storm a Howler named "Ralf" is depicted to have broken free from the Chimeran hive mind and presumably becoming the first instance of an independent Chimera.
