General Douglas MacArthur was the highest ranked member of the US Army and the defacto leader of the United States, succeeding former President Harvey McCullen. He became acting Commander in Chief in June 2nd, 1953 when McCullen and members of his cabinet were shot down by Chimeran fighter aircraft shortly after the fall of the Liberty Defense Perimeter. His leadership of the U.S. Government was intended to be temporary until a time when more formal elections could be held.[1] However, MacArthur was later killed at the Battle of Phoenix.[2]
