Canning was a Lance Corporal in the British Army.

On the 6th February, 1951, Lt Cpl. Canning and his unit were captured by the Chimera during a patrol to the north of Liverpool at approxomately 2:00 PM. They were transported via Carrier to a Chimeran Conversion Center in Grimsby, although Canning theorised it might have been in Hartlepool. Not long after arriving, he was able to break the rusty lock on his cell, and he was planning to escape. It is unknown what his eventual fate was.
