[edit] History

During the early twentieth century, fears had begun to grow in Britain that it would no longer be able to defend the metropole and the entirety of its Empire while at the same time maintaining the policy of "splendid isolation". Growing in fear of Germany's increasing military and industrial power and seeing it as a potential enemy in a future war, Britain allied with its imperial rivals France and Russia forming the Triple Entente. Ultimately, Britain and France preemptively declare war on Germany by attacking the German West African protectorate Togoland on August 1914, starting the Great War. Following this half-decade conflict, Britain became one of the Allied victors of the war.

With the signing of the Treaty of Versailles, Britain became a member nation of the newly created European Trade Organization. When strange occurrences have been reported from Russia throughout the 1920's to the 1940's, Britain's military intelligence along with their European counterparts began listening to Russia's radio waves. And in August 1948, after weeks of surveying Russia's radio broadcast a British military intelligence MI6 listening station have discovered a single repeating message ("Brotherhood, strength and fortitude... in the face of the angry night"). Two days later the station intercepts electromagnetic radiation emanating from Russia. The powerful signal causes the receivers to overheat and electrocute five men.

On April 1949, British monarch King Edward VIII visited the United States on a supposedly good will tour by some, but in reality the King's visit was debriefing knowledge of recent events concerning with Russia but leaves with more questions than answers. Then on the same year in late December the Chimera broke through Russia's Red Curtain and invaded the European continent within less than two months, leaving Britain the last European nation left to be conquered. The British Royal Navy heavily defended the English Channel as the British government begins evacuating 300,000 people, consisted mostly of women and children along with members of Parliament and their families, to a refugee camp, Avalon One, in Australia. Inevitably starting on October 1950, after the Royal Navy was attacked and scuttled in March, the Chimera attacked London by allowing Burrowers to dig under the English Channel and into the city, flooding Central Command with the Thames river; follow later by fleets of Chimeran dropships and mass bombardment of spire missiles infecting many British people en mass signaling Britain's occupation. It is during the occupation that the Chimera are unearthing Chimeran towers throughout Britain, which the British had at first thought of the towers being constructed.

Following the Chimeran occupation, the remains of the British military began a guerrilla war against their occupiers. Sometime later in 1951 that the British have captured a Chimeran Angel and offered it to the United States in exchange for military support and supplies. However, despite America's intervention, the initial American liberation of Britain became a disaster during Operation Deliverance, leaving the British without American military support for the time being except for a lone survivor of Deliverance, Nathan Hale. It is from the efforts of Hale that the British military have won several minor battles against the Chimera and ultimately allowing a turning point for humanity when Hale discovered the Chimera's weakness by destroying the main Chimeran hub tower in London, culminating in the Battle of London. It is during this desperate battle between Anglo-American and Chimeran forces that Hale and allied forces infiltrated the London Tower and destroyed its central nuclear fission reactor, resulting in a massive explosion that demolishes the main tower. The reaction propagates along the Chimera conduit network, destroying all the Towers in Britain and killing all of the Angels inside. With the Angels dead, the remaining Chimera forces, who depend on the Angels, quickly die off leaving Britain free from the Chimera.

[edit] Pre-Invasion

August, 1914: Britain along with French forces start the Great War by attacking the German colony of Togoland.

January, 1941: A Subterranean Army complex is being built across the United Kingdom. As the public speculate after the Swifton Blade prints photographs showing a military base in London that is entirely subterranean with concrete walls several yards thick. The British press is put into a media blackout.

[edit] 1949

April: King Edward VIII visits America on a good will tour bringing knowledge of what’s happening in Russia, but leaves with more questions than answers.

December: Evacuation of 300,000 people begins in Britain. These are mostly women and children along with members of Parliament and their families. The evacuees are sent to a camp in Australia known as Avalon One.

[edit] 1950

March: The British Royal Navy is attacked overnight while on patrol in the English Channel. Distress calls report huge freak waves overwhelming the fleet, despite it being an otherwise calm sea. By morning, all 96 ships are found washed up on the coast of France. Only seventeen bodies are found, all of which are dead by suicide. The ships' bilges are filled with a classified substance.

August: The British Seismology and Survey Department detects Chimera under the English Channel. Their request to the British Army to quiet the shore batteries, in order to gain more accurate readings, is denied, due to near-constant strafing runs by Chimeran Dropships .

October: The Chimera attack Central Command in London, England with Burrowers from below. The siege culminates with the River Thames flooding the base, killing 14,000 soldiers.

November: British civilians are infected en mass as they seek refuge in bomb shelters. The Chimera collect the bodies so quickly and efficiently that the shelters become known as "magic coffins."

[edit] 1951

January: Lt. Steven Cartwright's British Commando unit finds piles of charred bodies. Furthermore, they discover groups of savage humans seemingly aligned with the Chimera. These foreign fighters ritualistically mutilate both themselves and their victims. They leave slashed-hand markings behind, and become known as the Cloven.

January 27th: Cartwright's squad encounters more and more Cloven each day, as noted in his journal.

January 29th: Cartwright notes that attempts at communicating with the Cloven result in violence, and that their motives are unclear, as they appear to regard both humans and Chimera as enemies.

January 31st: The Cloven scavenge the bodies of some British troops after a battle, and Cartwright wonders how even the Cloven can resort to such savagery.

June: The US fleet reaches the British coast, and deploys aerial surveillance craft to scout the area; no signs of human or animal life are detected.

July: After unsuccessfully trying to contact British forces, the US navy launches Operation: Deliverance. U/AV-17 Hawk aircraft deliver the 3rd Ranger Regiment to York, England in order to secure a landing site. The flight is decimated by Chimeran anti-aircraft fire.

July 11th: Sgt. Nathan Hale and the 1st Ranger Regiment are flown into York. Hale's squad is ambushed by Chimeran Crawlers and infected, although miraculously, Hale regains consciousness and, with the help of a US medic, is able to regroup with the rest of the regiment at an abandoned bus depot. They manage to secure a landing zone at the depot, but the Chimera launch Spires, infecting all the surviving troops. Carriers bring them to a Chimeran Conversion Center in Grimsby, England.

July 12th: The British Operation: Shear is successful and a nexus in the Chimeran tunnels is defended. Little do the British army know that they have just stopped the Chimera from excavating another Chimeran tower.

July 14th: The Battle of London is a major victory for human resistance. The main Chimeran tower is destroyed, creating a unstable chain reaction propagates along the Chimera conduit network, destroying the towers in Britain along with the Angels causing the deaths of Chimeras en mass, liberating Britain from the Chimera.
